One of Matsuda's first large statements about the revision of SE's marketing strategy
So not only are they planning on focussing more on smart phone games (which I am not too pleased with), they are limiting their amount of released games worldwide in favor of focussing on releasing the games where they will do best.
On a purely conventional level, this is a great new strategy and I firmly believe Matsuda really will make a positive change for Square Enix. This might be more profitable for them in the end, rather than losing so much money on getting big games out that don't do well in the west or elsewhere.
But on a personal level, this. fucking. sucks. Lol. We will most likely have to deal with many more titles never coming out here. Since I am the biggest fan of the Japanese produced games, that cater to the Japanese market, this is a bit of a bitch. Hopefully it won't have too much of an effect. But games like Nier... I doubt that game would have been released overseas, had it been released during Matsuda's reign, and I feed on those kinds of games. I'm also questioning Drakengard 3 now. I NEED this game to come out here, urgh x_X.
So yeah, tension, excitement and anxiety, all at once. Better hope for the best.
If nothing else I hope they will become more open to fan demand, if they release a game in Japan and see a massive desire pledged from the western fans.
... And I'm still waiting for that Type-0 release >_>
(And The Last Remnant PS3 port dammit!)
