Some R&R time. Not bad especially the timing. I just walked back to my apartment complex. Sure it took more than 3 hours to do so but I didn't mind. After arriving at my apartment, I walked to the pantry to get something to eat, but instead, I grabbed a bottle of whiskey and a glass.

I sat down in front of the window, looking down at the city. It looked very calm and quiet. Pouring a glass, I looked to the night sky.

"To Morito for a hopeful recovery," I muttered, downing the glass.

"To Tiamut," I toasted, downing another.

After all that, I simply put down the glass and went off to get some sleep. After all, tomorrow would be a very sad day.

I couldn't sleep the night i got home, tired as i was. Tiamut and Morito's faces and their final moments flashed everytime I closed my eyes. I felt so guilty, and alone, knowing it wasn't my fault. I got up from my bed and went into the kitchen. The digital clock on the microwave read 0146.

"Way past my bedtime.........." I joked to myself. "Maybe a midnight snack will help......"

I opened the refridgerator and grabbed some leftover quesedilla and a drink. I sat down at the kitchen table in the soft light of the street below. I checked my MES messages while I ate. They wanted me to work security with some other guys from AAF during a parade the coming weekend. I sighed heavily and finished my late dinner.

I still didn't feel like going to bed. Deciding to take a sleeping pill, I layed back in the bed. I tossed and turned in my bed and couldn't get comfortable, but I finally fell asleep.

I walked through the woods the next day, holding my hammer but not in MES form. It was the same forest, same pathway, that I was in not two days before. I hear a scream in the distance and sprint towards the source of the sound. I run into a clearing in the woods and see Morito leaned over in the middle screaming, crying. Ice surrounding his body. "Oh no! I'm going to do something this time! Hold on Mortio!" I dashed towards him and began beating back the ice with my hammer. The ice suddenly became fire and overtook me. My clothes caught on fire and my hammer melted in my hands. Lightning struck behind me, knocking me to the ground. I activated my MES and started running back home. Lightning bolts struck the ground where I ran, the trees around me caught fire as I passed them, and icy mist filled the air, and earthquakes shook the ground. What's happening?! I scream into the empty woods. A cackling laugh rang through the chaotic forest. A human-like Acerbus like we fought before stood in the trail down which I ran. Three of his betheren appeared behind him. He wore white and blue garments and the mist seemed to emenate from his body. The Acerbus to his far right wore dull brown clothes similar to his, the earth shaking at his every move. The two others wore red and black and a lighter blue and yellow respectively. They too had an elemental aura around them.


Waking up, i realised it was only a dream. Probably the result of Mexican food after midnight, but the horrifying thought still struck me: what if the Acerbus could use CE as we do?

AAF Headquarters in Mundas – Secret Meeting

Beneath the ground lies the headquarters of the AAF of Mundas. It is here where the people receive orders from the higher ups and conduct research. Not long after the incident a meeting was held.

“Agent 647, report your status,” a man in his late forties, stood as he addressed the room.

The man with the suit came forward, this time however he wore a peculiar wide brimmed hat, as if he was hiding his face from danger.

“Tetra Squadron, comprising of MES pilot Morito, Ares, Ghost, and Tiamut left for the mission. Their first mission was successful with little casualties. However, when they were up against a Type V and were also confronted with a Type VII.”

“A Type VII, how unusual….” Came a voice of another man on the table scratching his chin in amusement at the thought.

“Tiamut was killed in battle, and records report that Morito suffered death from CE overdose.”

“Overdose….how interesting!” Came the reply of the man once again.

“Vincent, speak when you must speak, Agent 647 continue,” came the reply of the man.

“Forgive me, cannot a scientist enjoy a bit of the unknown, Adelias.”

“Vincent, shut up,” this time came the voice of another person on the table.

“Ahhh, Ruby my dear have I offended you,” Vincent spoke in a sarcastic tone.

“Shut the F*** up before I kill you.” Ruby replied quickly.

“Vincent and Ruby stop right now or you will be required to leave.”

“Fine with me I cannot stand staying near this asshole.” With that Ruby left the council to hear the final report.

“Agent 647 I have a request,” said Vincent.

“Yes sir what is it.”

“Please bring me the remains of the dead MES pilots if found along with the corpses of the Acerbus.”

“That can be done sir.”

“Agent 647, until notice is given your squad is hereby held on standby, until further orders arrive, that is all, DISMISSED,” Adelias spoke.

Vincent let out a smile as he pushed back his glasses whispered softly, “Perhaps they are here..... those beings”

I woke up to see grey clouds hanging low over the city. Atfer a meal and a change of clothes, it began to rain. The perfect weather for today it seems. I walked out of my apartment and headed towards a destination that I always visit every year at this time.

Along the way, I stopped at Macy's Flowery. The store owner simply handed me a bundle of irises and lilies. I've been doing this every year so the owner knew exactly what I wanted. I simply paid and left, heading to my destination.

A few more minutes of walking and I finally made it. The cemetery. I walked along, glad that no one else was around and finally made it to a tomestone. My family's grave. On it was a simple inscripition:
John Khan (2252-2294)
Rachel Khan (2257-2294)
Jerek Khan (2289-2294)

I laid the flowers down and simply stood there, staring at it. There were no bodies under this grave, just the stone itself. The bodies burned up when the ship reentered this planet.

'Would you be proud that I've become like this? A soilder that spends his life on the battlefield? Would it be worth the revenge on them?' I thought, as though their souls could answer these questions. But it remained as silent as it was except the sound of rain.

I don't know how long I was there, but when I left, it had gotten darker and rained harder, like the heavens crying for me.

I got out of bed the next morning as tired as I was when I tried to sleep. My MES braclet blinked a bright blue light. I picked it up and activated the message system; the hologram of my commanding officer projected itself over the braclet.

"Ares, you are called to duty as minor security detail for the Plato Parade. Bring no weapons of your own, we will provide you with weapons suitable for this operation. The use of your MES or CE is strictly prohibited unless in extreme emergency. Further instructions will be delivered upon your arrival."

I wish I could stay home and get some sleep, but security isn't so bad. Besides, nothing ever happens at these things. What could possibly go wrong?

An hour later I was at the parade and had recieved my mission briefing and had been issued my two security weapons. One was a standard 12mm pistol, only to be used as a last resort. The other was a nerve numbing pistol, used for crowd control and less lethal force. My mission was to protect the mayor of Plato during the parade. All I had to do was follow next to him on a police hoverbike and make sure no one jumped out and tried to kill him.

At 1200 noon, the parade started and began it's 8 mile drive down Main Street from the City Hall complex to the historical park. All went smoothly, as I thought it would. Citizens waved and smiled and cheered the whole 8 miles. When we got to the park 30 minutes later, the mayor started to give his speech, as I and some other AAF members stood on either side of the podium. Not two words into the address, the statue of Plato's founder behind us exploded, and several low level Acerbus stormed the park.

“Your awake now, boy?”
”Ummm..yes,” I replied as the rays of sun blinded my vision causing me to shield my face.
“You have been laying here for the past week asleep.”
”Where am I?” I said as I began to frantically look around
“At my cottage, I found you lying half dead.”
I began to search around for my MES bracelet, upon realizing I no longer had it on.
“I have your bracelet if that is what your looking for,” I man said as he tossed me my MES bracelet.

”It…. Is a present from…”
“Don’t **** with me, I know you’re a MES pilot.”

To stunned to respond back I fell silent and looked out the mirror.
“You had used too much CE that the CE was beginning to consume your body, until the point you die.”

”And who are you?”
“Lloyd Ivory, Lloyd will do. And your name?”
”Morito.” I replied will maintaining my camouflage.

“The good news is that your alive, your chances were slim however you made it. Rest here for a bit until your able to move. The bill is on me.”

With that Lloyd left closing the door behind. Images of the dream came back to haunt me. The reflection of myself consumed of CE and the words:

Heita, we are one and forever will be.

I closed my eyes in an attempt to block out the image, and began to survey my surrounding. Nearby a stack of books were shelved, the titles were a bit dusty. I made the effort to walk to the stack andto my surprise I found a weird book titled.

“Crystalis Elementare: Research and Study.”

My ribs and back were still in pain, I decided to kill some time by reading the book....

I was currently in a coffee shop, sipping on a hot mocha. After all, standing in the rain for 4 hours is not healthy for the body. Then a news report brought my attention to what was happening at the park.

I quickly finished my coffee when a beeping noise came from my bracelet. It was an emergancy message to help out at the park. Without another thought, I quickly took my car to the area.

It was absolute chaos at the park. I left my car and went into the nearby building. Arriving at the roof, I encountered a sniper.

"What are....," he started, just as I showed him my bracelet.

"Tetra Squadron's Captain," I quickly explained. "Your weapon please."

He gave it to me without any questions. I took up a sniping position and quickly took 2 Acerbus down.

Formation of Crystalis Elementare

The research currently, done on CE has only been one sided. Many researchers have indicated the potential of benefit of CE, however this book will talk about the negative effects along with a brief history of the CE.

I scratched my head reading the first paragraph of the book. As odd as it seemed, I became quite interested in the book and skipped through the pages to the section of the history.

The original fragments of the CE, where found in the Bermuda Triangle on Earth. The reason as to how it got there is still unknown. With the loss of knowledge that humanity faced, due to the dark ages strikes interesting debate as to what knowledge humans processed in the past. The one who revived the CE was Cedric Leroy, and his team of researchers. They discovered the four basic CE which are: Fire, Ice, Earth, and Lightning. It was these four crystals that Cedric and his team underwent research. It is thanks to their research we now posses the current knowledge and power of the CE.

The current notes and documents of Cedric’s life indicate a gap. That as soon afterwards finding the CE, he died. The reasons as to why are still unknown and are still under extensive research….

I remember reading information about Cedric, however the conspiracy over his death was not taught to me. The AAF in the training didn’t focus on Cedric at all. Strange as it was I skipped some pages to the Ascerbus.

Ascerbus, are creatures that were revealed soon after retreiveng the CE. How they came is a mystery. Some say that the Ascerbus are guardians of the CE and were awakened. As if humans were not meant to wield the CE. Other research indicates that the Ascerbus, were found along with the CE and escaped from the lab along with the original four shards…

”What? This doesn’t make sence at all,” I said to myself, ”If the Ascerbus took the CE, then how are we able to use CE.”

…. Thoughout my research on the CE, I have noticed how the Ascerbus also contained elemental properties like the CE. However, their properties are different, more like warped and distorted. In an experiment done with my assistants we retrieved a sample Ascerbus and began to dissect it. After rigourious attempts we found a dark crystal shard of some sort within the heart of the Ascerbus. It was this Dark CE that gave the Ascerbus their elemental properties. We also noted that even though the Dark CE is a threat to humans, since now the Ascerbus wield an element like ourselves. Not many Ascerbus have the mind and intellect to use that power. Higher being of Ascerbus, notably the Neuvo Draconis, Mens Mentis, and Metus Omega class of Ascerbus contain the power use the elements…..

I stopped reading the book and began to wonder what the three class names were. I imagined the classes similar to the one in the AAF. I decided to take a look at the author and to my surprise it said, “Llyod Ivory.”
I quickly flipped over to the inside of the book and noticed that the book was published, only several years later after CE was introduced to the public. That would mean that Lloyd would be more then 200 hundred years old. It didn’t make sence, who was this man and where was I? I quickly put the book back into the shelf and to my surprise Llyod opened the door.

“Are you feeling better?”
”Yes, I am. Thanks.”
“You can stay here as long as you want, I brought you some food.”
I feel silent as I watched Lloyd place the tray on the table, with that he turned around and began to leave.

”Lloyd who are you?”

Lloyd stopped his back towards me and answered, ”You will find out soon. Trust me I aint your enemy buddy.”

With that Lloyd shut the door and left me curious and hunger for answers.

I lowered the rifle and passed it back to the soilder. I quickly decended down the stairs and back out onto the street. A quick car ride back to my apartment and I had the urge to look at something.

I logged onto the military network and started a trace for Morioto's MES. I was surprised to see it currently active.

'What does it mean? Did he actually survive what happened to him?' I thought, looking at the data in front of me. I logged off and decided to find out. I needed to talk to Ares in a bit about this.

There weren't many Ascerbus there at the park. But Ascerbus are still Ascerbus, and I didn't have my MES. Kinda stupid of me to leave it behind, but I figured I'd be fine.

Local police set up a force field around the square to prevent the Ascerbus from running rampant into the city, and began evacuating the civilians in the park. As the mayor and his Special Service guards were climbing into their limo, an Ascerbus lunged towards them and attack a guard pushing the mayor into the limo. Luckily though, another AAF member more skilled with pistols than me shot the Ascerbus down from the SS agent.

The mayor and his guard escaped the scene and disappeared down the street. Only I, three other AAF members, and a few local policemen remained on the scene to fight the dozen Ascerbus. Two shots rang out from the roof behind us. I looked back and saw Ghost holding a sniper rifle aimed down at the square. I gave him a thumbs up sign to say thanks, but he ran down the stairs of the roof and gave the rifle to another police officer as quickly as he came.

Huddled together behind the fallen statue, I and the three AAF members started to shoot at the Ascerbus. They activated their MES and jumped out from cover to engage the enemy with their elemental melee weapons.

"Good," I thought, "glad they thought to bring their MES."

I turned around and faced away from the action, looking for Ghost. I couldn't see him. I refaced the square and shot at an Ascerbus gnawing on a live police officer. He dropped dead, and the policeman just laid there in a pool of blood against the Ascerbus.

In mere minutes, the Ascerbus were completely destroyed, thanks to the nameless AAF members and their MES. We investigated the square to find that hey left no tunnel or trace of where they came from, atleast not that we could tell. Experts were called in, and and ambulance came to check us all out. An AAF CO came and dismissed us from the park.
