“Hey Morito! Lets get going. We are late for our lecture.”

”Not like its going to hurt us or anything.”

“Jezz, you don’t care at all do you about school do you.”

”I just do what I got to do.” Morito replied casually.

Its been a week now since Morito enrolled in the local university in Plato. His real name being Heita Kiyomari. It was two weeks prior, Heita received his first mission as a MES pilot from headquarters to stop the Acerbus attack on the Planet Mundas.

Morito walked along and headed start for class making sure there was no suspicion about him.

After a lecture Morito decided to head back to his apartment. Located a few blocks away from the campus, Morito was disguised very well with the following students.

As Morito stepped into his apartment he grabbed his MES bracelet and attached it on his wrist. A light was blinking from the MES bracelet and Morito pressed the button indicating a message.

“Morito, the mission briefing starts tonight at 18:00 hours, meet at Central Park for further instructions.”

Morito took a glance at the message and threw himself on the couch to take a nap.

”Acerbus, school everything seems so boring.” Morito thought, ”Why did I join the academy in the first place.”

All of a sudden Morito’s stomach began to growl, causing him to stand up.
”Guess I need food before I think.”

”I wonder who else was assigned to this mission or is it just me.” Morito began to wonder as he helped himself to some frozen pizza. He gave a shrug and fell on the couch asleep.

"That'll be $45.78 sir. Will that be cash or credit?"

"Cash then,"

"Thank you sir. Have a nice day."

I smiled as I picked up my bag of groceries and headed out into the street. Despite being only around 3pm, it was already becoming packed with students. After all, it was Friday in downtown and almost everyone was looking forward to the weekend.

A 15 minute walk took me to my apartment complex. A quick swipe of my access card at the lift took me to my apartment. As I closed the door, I put down the bag and put my MES bracelet on. A single message was waiting on it.

"Ghost, the mission briefing starts tonight at 18:00 hours, meet at Central Park for futher instructions."

I sighed a bit as I took my coat off.

'Just enough time for something to eat and a shower,' I thought, getting a towel.

"Twenty-one.............twenty-two.............twenty....three! Twenty...four............twenty....five!"

I dropped off the pull up bar and feel to the gym floor in exhaustion. The automatic spotter droid caught me and eased my fall to a gentle stop. Through the gym, other members of the Anti-Acerbus Federation were training for upcoming missions. I knew I had one soon, it had to be soon. Its been almost a month of bench warming, I was ready to get back into the action.

An AAF officer strode into the gym and made his way to me. I tried to get up from the floor, but settled for saluting from my collapsed position. The officer didn't mind.

"Mission briefing at 1800 hours in Central Park, Ares."

""Thank you, sir."

I climbed up and walked to the locker, and headed home.

[Vash]

"The view from here sure is amazing." I thought to myself as I gazed out over the quite city of Plato. The sun was just beginning to set and the sky was ablaze in a sea of color. I had arrived a few days ago after receiving my orders from Command to come to this planet, Mundus, and scout out the area and prepare for an Acerbus attack.

There would be assigned three others to this mission, and we would all have to work together to prevent the Acerbus from destroying everything. "Easier said than done." I muttered, but couldn’t help but grin at the chance of fighting again.

Inside my helmet data was being accumulated about the city and the surrounding area, collecting readouts of the weather, geography, traffic reports, police reports, anything that might provide a clue as to the Acerbus' next move or any sign of activity.

"Still no sign of anything suspicious it seems." I muttered as I took off my helmet and gazed out again over the city, glancing down briefly as my MES Bracelet started blinking to remind me that the meeting was going to be starting soon. Looking at the retreating sun my eyes began to grow distant, as thoughts of her filled my mind, my body growing warm at the precious memories. With a sigh I shook my self out of my reverie and began making my way down from the roof of the building I had chosen for my observations, which so happened to be the central government building of Plato. Activating my cloaking field I became invisible to any curious observers who might be glancing up and notice me.

After a while I finally made it to the street and began walking towards central park, where the others should be gathering here soon.

Central Park of Plato is a typical gathering for couples to stroll through the grounds and for the typical jogger trying to lose a few pounds to stroll by. Morito felt a bit at ease being alone in the park. As Morito sat down on a nearby bench, awaiting for any new details.

Morito didn’t realize, that nearby the three other MES pilots were carefully examining him. It wasn’t long until Morito lost his focus and began to look at the local girls. As Morito’s eye caught a specific girl he began to walk up to her. As Morito began to walk towards her, a man in a suit sat down beside him and opened his brief case and placed a document on the bench.

Upon noticing the man Morito stopped suddenly and sat back down on the bench and picked up the document.

“Follow me,” the man said in a gentle tone and walked off into a nearby limo.

Morito stood up and followed him, along with the other MES pilots.

”If I were you, you better be careful next time,” came a voice.

Morito looked back and noticed a man wearing a cape.

”Who are you?”
”You know better then that.”
Morito let out a grin and said, ”Isn’t it better to assimilate with the crowd then to act as a total stranger.”

With that the man fell silent. It was clear that Morito’s careless behavior might have drawn suspicion but Morito didn’t care at all.

“Please sit down in the limo,” came the voice of the man.

We all stared at each other and entered the limo.
Throughout the ride everyone was quiet. No one said a word. Morito looked at the document he held and inside there was four separate documents. Morito passed the document to each person and upon receiving the document everyone’s eyes focused what was written on the paper.

Inside there were orders to attack a nearby ground filled with Acerbus, located south 30 km away. Also, the details of the Acerbus were classified as type I – II. Morito let out a grin

“Even though there are type I and II Acerbus, low level fiends. It is still best to be prepared and work as a team. The slightest mistake could be fatal,” the man spoke.

Morito placed the document on the ground and asked, ”So when do we start?

“The limo will escort you to the gate, from there you are on your own. It is recommended to activate your MES 10 km away from the city. Once your mission is done I will find you, so don’t come back,” the man said with a smile, “I am sure you guys are prepared.”

”Ready!”
”I am good.”
”Good!”
”I am fine..”

The man looked at the window and said, “It seems we have arrived, you can leave now. Also boys remember to be nice to each other.”

With that the team of four exited the car and stared at the empty wasteland ahead of them. Morito placed his hand in his pocket and started to walk forward towards the enemy.

”My calculations predict that we will be there in 7 hours.”
”Sounds fun,” Morito replied as he continued to walk forward with the team of four.

The silence was almost unbearable. I could see that most of us were rather uncomfortable with the silence but no one seems to want to start up a conversation either. It continued this way for more than an hour. Finally I couldn't take it anymore.

"Since we're all here, we might as well introduce ourselves. I'm Ghost," I started, using my codename. The others seemed to pick up on that.

"Tiamut," The guy with the helmet replied, not looking my my direction.

"I'm Ares."

"Morito."

"Ok. Now that thats out of the way, how about a competition? The person with the least kills today buys first round later," I boldly put out.

"Fine, I'm in. Don't be a crybaby because you lose," Ares replied, with a grin on his face.

"I'm in as well,"

"Whatever,"

And with that, it was back to silence for the rest of the 10km walk.

After walking for what felt like days in near silence, except an introduction and proposition for a competition, we reached the first checkpoint.

"Ok. We're 10 kilos out from the city, time to activate our MES."

The four of us pressed a button on our braclets and transformed into our robot counterparts.

"I feel like a Power Ranger." I said jokingly.

The comment was broadcasted on our team radio and then typed out in a written dialouge box near the bottom of our HUD.

"Ha ha."
"More like a Gundam or Transformer"
"Ha ha."

The light humor and reference to old TV shows eased the atmosphere. It's good to be comfortable when going into battle, yet focused at the same time.

"We should get going. We've got about 5 more hours to go until we to the Acerbus position."

"Lets go then!" I said as I grabbed my hammer from it's holster on my back.

Ooc: Im going to switch back to first person, since third person was hard and annoying to write.

Bic:

We kept walking which seemed like days. Activating our MES might not have been a good idea. Already its been 2 hours and my body felt heavy.

Instantly, the radar began to signal a heat source.

”There is some activity a few meters from here.”
”We are not near the enemy destination what is it?”
I quickly grabbed my scythe and said, ”I will go check it out you guys stay here.”
”Wait! Morito..”

It was to late, I had already activated my thrusters to allow be to glide in order to save me time.

As I looked at the rader, I noticed there was only a small group of Acerbus. As I got closer the visual confirmed that there were three Acerbus that resembled wolves. There body size was twice the original size of a wolf, and their fangs and claws were hanging dangerously awaiting to strike anything.

I extended one of my wings and initiated a missile strike.

”Lets try this CE, in action.” I thought as I let fly two missiles.

As the missiles hit the ground it immediately froze the surrounding region, including the Acerbus. They had fallen for the attack.

I quickly grabbed out my scythe and quickly lunged forward scattering the frozen ice. The force of the attack created a shockwave shattering the remaining frozen particles.

With that I placed my scythe behind my back and noticed my other comrades on the radar.

”Morito, what did you just do?” Ares asked a bit stunned.

”I just wanted to see the power of the CE in battle so I launched an attack.

Tiamut ignored my comment and began to investigate the dead corpses. As he finished analyzing he said,”It seems these Acerbus were scouts, the camp must be nearby.”

”Then lets go.”

”Idiot, don’t you realize what you just done.”

I stopped suddenly and looked at Ghost who answered, ”Since you killed the scouts the Acerbus within the cave will realize something is wrong.” With that Ghost initiated his thrusters and rushed towards the cave.

Everyone immediately followed pursuit leaving me behind.

”When we get there, Morito don’t do anything until we figure out a plan of action.”

I lowered my head in shame. I didn’t expect this outcome to occur by me killing the scouts. Perhaps I wasn’t fit to me a MES pilot. It was only minutes now until our confrontation with the Acerbus. Even though I created a bad circumstance, the adrenaline of using the CE still burned within me. Even though my spirit had dropped there was a sudden urge to use the CE again.

I let out a grin thinking about the pleasure of using my CE soon…..

I quickly moved closer to the cave section, being very careful not to be seen. Since I jumped ahead so quickly, the others were several minutes behind.

Switching to my Advance Tactical Sensors, I took several scans of the area and also parts of the cave and the results weren't good.

Tiamut arrived to my left, hiding behind a rock. "How does it look?" he asked, also using his sensors.

"Not good. Thanks to adrenaline boy, there're currently patrolling the area," I answered, trying to formulate a plan.

Just then, Morito and Ares arrived just I finished formualting my plan in my head.

"Ok, here's the plan. Morito and Tiamut, sneck to this position and WAIT until Ares fires. Ares, take up a position here and fire three grenades to these positions on my signal to slow down the enemy from the cave. You can join in after that. I'll be up on this hill where I'll fire two shots from my rifle. That'll be the signal to fire OK?" I said, indicating the positions on the HUD map.

"Alright."

".....Fine."

"Roger."

I quickly broke from the pack and moved up the hill. After 3 minutes, I was set up with my rifle.

"All personal report in," I commanded, zeroing in my scope.

"Tiamut, in position."

"Morito, ready."

"Ares, armed and ready."

I sighed a bit, slowing my breathing to steady my aim. I zeroed in on an Acrebus's head.

"Rock and roll," I whispered, firing a shot.

Putting my grenade launcher into defensive firing mode, i fired grenades at the mouth of the cave, creating a blockade of stone to trap the Acerbus. The remaining Acerbus outside the cave were immediately aware of our presence at Ghost's shot. The other three engaged the enemy quickly, using CE and standard attacks.

I lept from my position and grabbed my hammer in midair, slamming the hammer into an Acerbus skull. Three more jumped on my MES and began attacking with claws and teeth. I ripped them off one at a time and beat the wolf-like monsters with my club.

"They just keep coming!"

The caged Acerbus in the cave broke a hole in the rock wall just big enough to get through and started pouring out like sand from a broken hourglass. I dropped the hammer and reached for my grenade launcher, shooting a fragmentation shot at the hole, trying to keep as many back as I could.

A beeping came from my earphone, and red flashed on my HUD. A warning sign came into view on my visor, telling me that an Acerbus I hadn't noticed had disabled my MES energy cell.

I'm running on reserve power here guys! Got only 5 minutes left!"

"Hold on! We're almost done! Ghost shouted over the speaker system. "If we could just plug them up in there for good, we can call in support to destroy the cave and get outa here!"

I don't wanna use up my energy, Morito! Fire missles into the hole! Its our best option!

"Are you sure?"

I punched an escaped Acerbus off of me and replied "Yes! Now do it!"

Morito let off several missles into the hole, which had grown quite larger since the first penetration. Tiamut and Ghost finished the remaining Acerbus outside as I began to retreat from the battlefield, calling for airsupport. "This is Ares, we need aerial bombs dropped at this location." I called into the mouthpiece and tracked the the location on my map and sent it to command.

No sooner had I sent the coodinates that my batteries died. My body molded back into it's human form. I lay there collapsed in the woods, waiting on my comrades to come find me, when a man bearing the marks and symbols found on the Acerbus bodies and nests walked through the bushes towards me, beamsword in hand.
